More info:

We all have problems, including me, no really...even me!! However, I'll try to sort a few of the most common out here!

Whats' your problem?

Normally, that question would be a prelude to a bar-fight! In this case, however, it's just us Ops trying to solve your little hiccups in your server or with your modem/router/firewall/PC/front lawn...ok, not the front lawn but you get the idea! One for the lads! Don't worry..there's one for the ladies too, somewhere!
DON'T ask the Ops for help unless you have tried to help yourself first!

Now, one of the most common questions we get is..
"I've installed Omenserve but I can't get it to work"!

There are lots of reasons why this may be happening and we'll cover some of the more common ones first.

Router
The single, biggest pain in the butt reason for servers not working is router and/or modem ports not being open. For Mirc to work properly you need to tell your router or modem to allow certain ports to be opened. Check the make and model number of your router and/or modem and go HERE and follow the instructions for your equipment.

Setups
Have you REALLY checked your server setup? If not...go HERE. Go on..do it NOW! Seriously..we will ask questions!

Firewalls
If you use the Windows XP firewall go here for assistance.
If you use any other firewall please read your documentation on how to open ports or allow particular programs (Mirc, in this case) to pass through it.

Ident
Whilst connected to Mirc, right-click on your nick and select Whois. Look at your name in the STATUS window, if you have a ~ in front of your name, you did not get a proper Ident with the server. Without this Ident you are not likely to be able to run a server. The most likely culprit is either your router, firewall and/or Mirc settings. Have you REALLY read the help files? If so, then maybe try these suggestions..

  • Try a different irc server. Press Alt+O...connect..servers and choose a different one, preferably one that isn't "random".
  • Try re-starting your pc. This sometimes works after you've made changes.
  • Double-check your firewall.
  • Has your modem or router got a built in firewall? Consult your documentation.
  • Check if your modem/router is listed here and follow the setup guide for Mirc or Irc.
  • Call your ISP and ask why you cant get Ident on port 113. They should be glad to help you.

I know, I know...I would too!
